Finally the day has come. After almost two years of planning last week on July 2nd 2009 the action started and the new Tropical Imaging studio got underway. Having pointed out the site boundary markers to Frank McGurk and his team the day before, they were ready bright and early, with lines marked out ready for action.
It looks quite destructive as the large caterpillar bulldozer carves its way through the pristine native bush – hardly the best thing for us to show on a “greenbuild” blog – but what impressed me most about the whole endeavor was the care and attention that the construction team was already using in preserving as much as possible of the local environment. After all it would be much easier for them to simply clear the whole plot and then let us sort it out afterward, but that is not what we wanted and not Projetech’s style!
The day begins with the “delivery” of the big bulldozer to the site.
“The first cut”.
Some consultation between Frank and the crew on exactly where to clear.
David Gallardo came by from the studio to capture some images while I shot some video (coming soon !)
Actually I think David really came along to make sure he reserves the best spot for his new desk!
I think this is where the kitchen will be !
Big D8 in action. Notice the tiny red tape on the bush marking the area to clear and what to leave untouched.
Frank looks on as the D8 clears the carpoark area and access to leeward highway.
Lots of topsoil on the site which is going to be used. It was dusty shooting though!
A marker in the bush for the building layout.
Putting those same markers in !
We wanted to try and save this tree so it was marked with tape
A view showing the entrance to the building site from the main highway. We will have great access!!
Later that same day Ron Shaw the architect came by to check on things and consult with Frank about the site. It’s hard to get an exact picture when it’s covered in thick vegetation, so this meeting helped confirm things.
Had to take a picture of the name of the site – Tropical who??? yet another reason why we are going with Brilliant by Tropical Imaging !!
A view from the top of the D8 to the road.
So it’s started – we are under construction. I hear that already things are moving right along, they have already graded the site, dug the cistern to collect rainwater for irrigation and are moving ahead swiftly. I even got a request for info on indoor paint colors yesterday. WHAT??!!??
Some video and more updated pictures coming soon!!
